Google is now restricting Huawei's access to its Android operating system—and that's not all.

This Google decision comes just days after President Trump declared a supply chain security emergency and the U.S. Secretary of Commerce announced Huawei and 70 affiliates were being added to the Commerce Department's blacklist known as the "Entity List."

Google decision to cut off Huawei

Reuters broke the news about Google restricting Android and what it means:

"Alphabet Inc’s Google has suspended business with Huawei that requires the transfer of hardware, software and technical services except those publicly available via open source licensing," a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Sunday.

The suspension could hobble Huawei’s smartphone business outside China as the tech giant will immediately lose access to updates to Google’s Android operating system. Future versions of Huawei smartphones that run on Android will also lose access to popular services, including the Google Play Store and Gmail and YouTube apps.

Tech companies restricting business with Huawei

One can only imagine what it must be like at Huawei headquarters right now. The company is under fire from both government and the private sector.

This includes several major tech players who are pulling away from doing business with the Chinese telecom giant.

Bloomberg broke this news over the weekend:

"Chipmakers including Intel Corp., Qualcomm Inc., Xilinx Inc. and Broadcom Inc. have told their employees they will not supply Huawei until further notice, according to people familiar with their actions."
